About Josh Gibson MD

Josh Gibson, M.D. left clinical medicine in April 2017. Currently, Josh is an executive and life coach. Most recently, Josh was the VP of Open Innovation and Director of People Operations at San Francisco-based Pilot 44, LLC, a venture studio that identifies and tests new solutions to client business challenges. In his role there, Josh drove projects in digital transformation, primarily in the medical and consumer sectors. Josh also has over 20 years of experience in the field of psychiatry. He has worked with Quartet Health, a mental health startup, and has nearly 15 years of experience in coaching individuals and clients on how to lead fulfilling lives through changes at the individual and organizational level.

Qualifications and Awards

Josh Gibson received the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for humanism in medicine and clinical excellence during his academic career at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he earned his medical degree. He then completed his Residency in Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where he won the Alexander Simon Award for Teaching. His insights and leadership skills also earned him the American Medical Association Foundation Leadership Award and a fellowship to serve at the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP), a renowned think-tank dedicated to shaping psychiatric thinking, public programs and clinical practice in mental health. Over the next decade, John served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF, supervising and teaching residents. His clinical and educational activities focused on the neurobiology of relationships.

Josh Gibson MD was appointed chairman of the GAP’s Committee on Work and Organizations. In this capacity, he spearheaded editorial and writing initiatives for CAREERS, groundbreaking work in career guidance for young adults. He also authored a section of the Relationship Primer for the Workplace, included as part of the anthological work, Psychiatry of Workplace Dysfunction: Tools for Mental Health Professionals, Managers, and Employees. 

In his time as an English major at Cornell University, Josh Gibson received the Arthur Lynn Andrews award for fiction writing. Several top executives in corporate America today have credited Josh Gibson for helping them understand workplace dynamics and building effective high-performing teams. He has also served as a senior consultant at Andersen Consulting, the company that became Accenture. There he drove innovation in organizational behavior, logistics, delivery, process management, and education design. His clients include several Fortune 500 companies across the healthcare, financial services, and retail industries. His time working with the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford is widely considered the spark for his interest in the medical field.

He now resides in San Rafael, California. He is a family man and always looks to spend more time with his wife and two wonderful children. He is a music buff, and is athletically inclined, enjoying running and basketball. He is also a prolific writer, currently working hard at a poetry collection as well as a full-length novel.

The Josh Gibson MD Award has a strict selection process that is dedicated to finding innovative students, potential future leaders, and dedicated workers towards community development. Josh Gibson MD firmly believes that it is the chief responsibility of every individual to give back to society and the overall community. The Josh Gibson MD Award comprises a lump-sum one-time payment of 1000 USD to the selected scholar. Josh Gibson MD certainly understands that tuition goes much beyond this amount; however, he feels that it is a token of appreciation for the student’s determination, academic excellence, and talent that should make way for success.

The Josh Gibson MD Award has been designed to serve as an amazing opportunity for the most deserving student to accomplish his career goals and aspirations. The lucky winner of the prestigious Josh Gibson MD Award would be notified through email by January 31st, 2025. The selected student must acknowledge within one week their acceptance of the scholarship or an alternate may be chosen.

We are excited to invite applications for the Josh Gibson MD Award, a scholarship designed to support academically brilliant, dedicated, and motivated students in their pursuit of higher education. This year, we are particularly interested in understanding the literary influences on your life and leadership approach.

Essay Topic:
“Choose a book or poem that changed your mind about how you should lead your life. Explain exactly how and why it did, including steps you have already taken toward that purpose.”

Essay Requirements:

    • Your essay should range from 400 to 600 words, reflecting your personal insights and experiences influenced by a significant literary work.
    • Originality and authenticity are paramount. Ensure your submission is your own work, thoroughly proofread and free of errors.

 

Application Submission:

    • Students are required to submit their applications through the dedicated Application Form available on the Josh Gibson MD Award website.
    • Along with your essay, please fill out all necessary personal and academic information as requested in the form.

 

Important Note:
To maintain the integrity of the application process, any submission assisted by ChatGPT or similar AI technology will be considered ineligible for this scholarship award. We emphasize the importance of personal reflection and genuine insights in your essay.
